GOP against districts
David T. Rickard
Chairman, Davidson County GOP
Thomasville
Editor: I find it ironic that the Libertarian Party would propose
district elections for Davidson County commissioners. The party that
believes in freedom of action and thought would limit a voter to choose only
two of seven commissioners. I would challenge Mr. Smith, chairman of the
Libertarian Party, to take the next step and get up a petition to bring his
proposal to a vote. The Republican Party is not afraid of the people´s
voice.
I am not surprised the Democratic Party supports the idea of district
elections for commissioners. The Democratic Party has a history of using
corrupt practices that deny the majority of the honest representation they
deserve. Unable to win elections in a fair fight, they have relied upon
negative ads, dividing special interests, calling special elections,
gerrymandering and manipulation of voter registration laws.
The ballot box is the only true protection citizens have against tyrannical
abuse of power by the state. Republicans believe voters should select
government officials and government officials should not select voters
